image

Valve Vice President Doug Lombardi says things are going pretty well in the company's new partnership with Electronic Arts, and that he'd be happy to talk to companies interested in getting the growing studio.

Valve's rising kinship with Physics Arts is "really good," Lombardi said in an audience with Gamasutra. "EA was very liberal about locution, 'We understand World Health Organization you guys are. We understand what Steam is. We don't want Steam to go away.' Well, they might want Steam to go away, but they're not asking us to make Steamer leave."

Emphasizing the recent "personality interchange" at Ea, Lombardi compared the new situation at Ea Partners with Ubisoft and the final glory days of Sierra. "I came dead of Sierra, and at the time, Sierra was Half-Life, Homeworld, the Caesar games, and a couple other games that were really groovy," he said. "There were extraordinary good hoi polloi thither, and if you asked developers and whatnot, 'What publishers have got things active on?' they'd order, 'OH, I met the guys from Sierra Studios, and they'ray in truth cool, and they've got a bunch of great games.'"

"You know, in the Modern 90s, they [Ubisoft] weren't the powerhouse that they are nowadays," he continuing. "And EAP has obviously become a powerhouse now, with us, Crytek, Rock Stria, the announcement with Carmack and the Gem State guys. And then, you make out, they're enjoying several great years, and we enjoy working with them."

Lombardi also touched happening conversations between Valve and id Software regarding id's decision to print its upcoming FPS Craze with EA Partners. He same that Gabe Newell, manager at Valve, had prejudices toward EA analogous to those expressed by id's Whoremaster Carmack, who in July claimed that until recently, helium thought of EA as an "mephistophelian conglomerate." "Gabe had the same reaction when [COO] Scott [Lynch] and I came habitation from our roadshow of meetings with all the publishers, and we said, 'We think EA's the right choice.' He's like, 'You've got to be kidding me!'" Lombardi aforementioned.

"Just it's turned out that all those scary stories – which, you know, maybe some of them were true, and maybe close to of them are history, I don't know – haven't appeared to USA; we haven't seen the bugaboo," He added.

Despite the current good times, however, Lombardi same he would glucinium "happy to have that conversation" with anyone compared interested in getting the studio. "By the same token, the company's doing bad well and we're real happy with what we're doing," he said. "And so we'll see. I mean, anything is possible."
